The BIM4EEB Digital Construction Ontologies Suite (DICO) is a framework fodigitalconstr semantic representation of buildings’ Product-Process Modelling. It aims to address the semantic challenge by providing the essential concepts and properties of construction and renovation projects that can be used as bases to improve the interoperability between different systems and data sources. The DICO ontology suites encompass ontologies concerning entities, processes, agents, information, contexts, variables, occupants behaviour, indoor air quality, building acoustics, energy systems, building materials, and lifecycle.
Recently, the DICO ontology suites have been completed in the Linked Data and Ontologies work package of BIM4EEB project. The subsequent maintenance, refinement and quality management of DICO will be integrated with the development of the BIM4EEB tools for different areas of renovation projects, such as: fast mapping of existing buildings, building information management, energy simulation of renovation scenarios, fast-track construction management, and so on. As a solution for semantic interoperability, the testing and validation of DICO will focus on information exchange among the applications and the mappings from and to application data. As a further result, the application focused development will produce examples of ontology use patterns in application-related scenarios.
